When meeting new clients for the first time, they often tell me that they have tried working out on their own in the past, but find it very difficult to adhere to a regular program. Although I have always been an advocate of scheduled workouts until you are at least past the initial dropout phase (the first 6 months), I am going to change my philosophy.

My inspiration for this edition’s column comes from two of my clients, we’ll just call them Joe & Bob, who have been having a difficult time exercising regularly due to several bouts of sickness.
If you haven’t realized it by now, overcoming obstacles is much easier if you set a goal. That has never been more true than when it comes to exercise and getting in shape. It’s just humane nature to push yourself harder and further toward something if you have some idea of just what that something is.
